Our Story — Your Felt Companion

We all need a companion.

From our background in psychology, we’ve learned something simple but profound: people are already doing their very best to cope with life’s challenges. They are the experts in their own lives. Often, what matters most is not being “fixed”, but having someone — or something — quietly beside them during difficult moments.

When we began exploring the idea of moving into physical products, Dori often asked whether it was possible to offer that same sense of companionship in a tangible form. It was only after discovering the felt characters we now carry that the answer became clear.

These figures are not just toys, gifts, or decorations. Each one has a name, a personality, and a story — small presences that invite connection, comfort, and companionship.

During an on-site visit to Nepal, Dori spent time with the artisans who bring these characters to life. She witnessed their dedication to craft, their care for sustainable, pollution-free production, and the quiet pride they take in their work. Beyond the workshop, she met local children and experienced the deeply moving farewell rituals at the Cremation Temple at Pashupatinath — moments that prompted reflection on impermanence, dignity, and what it means to make a difference, however small.

On returning to Australia, Heart of Collins was established with one simple belief at its core: Your Felt Companion.

Our characters are handmade from top-quality sheep’s wool sourced from New Zealand. They are entirely sustainable, biodegradable, and crafted using traditional needle felting and wet felting techniques. Every expression, outfit, and tiny detail is lovingly hand-stitched using organic cotton thread or felted by hand. We use no glue, and our production process remains pollution-free.

Each purchase directly supports skilled artisans in Nepal, enabling safe, fair, and independent work in an environment free from discrimination.
